Book Review: The Lost Flock
Rare wool, wild isles and one woman's journey to save Scotland's original sheep.
I know I’m not supposed to judge a book by its cover but….just look at how gorgeous this is!
The Lost Flock is a look inside the world of sheep farming, a world that is so much more complex than most people realize - myself included. Jane Cooper is refreshingly honest, sharing not only her successes but her mistakes and what she learned from them.
This book is also an important look at the struggles that face remote/island communities and how much those communities have to fight tooth and nail for what should be standard services.
I admire Jane’s tenacity, and it’s clear how deeply she loves her flock, her community and the land beneath her feet that she feels so privileged to cultivate. I think Orkney and the farming community is lucky to have her and wish her all the very best in her endeavors to be the best steward she can be - both to the rare sheep she helped save, and to our precious planet. We need more Janes in the world.
Thank you Chelsea Green Publishing for gifting me this book, I think it's a great addition to your shelf if you're interested in crofting and sustainability. And shout out to Holly Ovendon for the stunning cover!
